Don't know if this applies to your situation, but maybe you could you work the other way around?
File attached: clicking the box on slide 1 takes you to slide 2 where the box enlarges and the circle disappears, and clicking the circle on slide 1 takes you to slide 3 where the circle enlarges and the box disappears.
