Default Excel linked charts don't update

I have linked several excel charts into a powerpoint slide. I used the copy from excel and paste into powerpoint as a link and keep source formatting. I set the links to update automatically.

When I change the graph data and/or scales in excel I don't see any updates in powerpoint.

I even tried an old add-in that was listed on some site, but it didn't allow the update to be seen either.

Not receiving any errors, just not seeing any change in the charts.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Does no one have any ideas?

Again, I don't see the excel chart updating any information. I have set the links update to automatic and get the prompt, no errors but no visible change in the chart.

I've even tried to update the links with vba; but again I don't see any changes.

Do you need more information to even comment on this issue?

The linked excel chart method is PowerPoint is not well thought out!

I would try:

Make sure the Excel file is saved.
Copy the chart and in PPT choose Paste Special (Link as Excel chart)

You should now have a rightc click option to update and maybe the auto update will also work. If you use code post the code you have and I will see if it can be fixed. usually preople use code which does not correctly identify the chart object.

John - thanks for the information. I got it to work, but I don't understand why?

If I copy the excel chart and link it using your method (as a chart object) it works.

If I copy the excel chart and link it using the Keep Source Formatting & Link Data (F) method it comes in as a macro enabled worksheet and the links don't update.

Is this a bug in powerpoint?

Thanks for helping me get it to work!

Not so much a bug as poor design! (IMHO)
