Default Funky connector behavior with newly added anchors

Powerpoint shapes have default "anchors" at cardinal points (north, south, east, west) that "connector arrows" will snap to.

To add anchors at other, non-cardinal points, I convert the shape to a Freeform (under Format > Edit Shape) and then add new points.

This all works great, BUT arrows always snap to the new anchors from the *right side* of the shape (not from the "outside" of the shape, which could be either left or right).
