Default Edit a ppt file in notepad or similar

I can open a powerpoint file in notepad and see the raw data. I want to perform a search and replace function and then save the file.

When I do this the file is no longer valid and Poweerpoint wont open it.

Is there any way to do this ?

I want to perform a mass edit on the hyper links in the document .

You might be able to save as XML and do a search and replace. probable a macro would work better though. Say EXACTLY what needs to change.
