Transition sound and background sound

I have a background sound set over my slides, but on the odd slide I wanted a transition sound (from a wav file I have created myself), it all works perfectly in Powerpoint but the transition sounds are not to be heard when converting it to a wmv file (of any size)?

Is this possible?

is there a work around?

I don't want to stop the background music just for these 3 second sound bites.
