Default New Template not showing in Design Ribbon

I'm creating a new template for my company, but when I change the title page layout I don't see a thumbnail that reflects the change in the Design Ribbon. All I see is a blank thumbnail.

How can that be fixed. Please HELP!

With the Master open, how can I select what will be used for the thumbnail shown in the ribbon (see image below)
