Turning off automatic links to Excel charts
Alright, I just got upgraded to Office 2010. I don't know if there is an option for this (god knows I've tried looking). I have a powerpoint I am copying a large number of charts into. Problem is, I am copying them from an Excel tool created by IT in which I simply select the agency and it auto-generates the numbers into a bar chart and pie chart, so I am essentially copying from the same chart over and over. Powerpoint seems to think I want the information linked every time I just copy it over. I don't want it linked. Yes, I know I can manually change it each and every time, but every so often I forget, change the information in the chart, and have to go back and regenerate the previous chart to fix the mistake. Is there any option in Powerpoint to just stop this? I'd like to be able to just copy-past repeatedly and not have to worry about whether I remembered to copy without links. This task is tedious enough as it is without this frustration. |

To be clear, are you copying / pasting manually or does the IT tool do it for you?
Once in PPT do you need to edit the chart data? |

I am copying manually. Since I have issues with carpal tunnel in my right hand, I depend on a lot of alt-tabbing and shortcut keys rather than using the mouse, so it would be very easy for me if I can just ctrl-c/ctrl-v my way through this quickly.
Edit: I realize I did not answer the other part of your question. I do not have to change the information, just copy the chart over. The slides are already formatted the way I want them, so the chart pops right into place. |

There's no way to alter the default paste. You can RIGHT click and get options instead.
Beware though the default was changed for a very good reason. It was possible to recover ALL data (not just the chart data) from the non linked excel. This could be embarressing ask Sarah Palin! You might want to try pasting as an image. It is possible to do this from the keyboard CTRL ALT V Release these! Down arrow ENTER |

Alright, I suppose that is what I will have to do. Thank you for your assistance!
