Default Object on top of placeholder

How do I put something on top of a placeholder on a PowerPoint Master Slide? I tried using the "Send to Back" function on the placeholder. This looks fine on the master slide, but on an actual slide the placeholder jumps to the front again.

Pretty sure you can't. Objects on the master (except placeholders) are treated as background in slide view.
