Contact order
I have imported my contacts into Outlook 2010 and they all appear in the list but the sort order is weird.
Originally some were ordered as First Last name and others as Last, First name. I editted each contact separately and changed the sort order to Last, First name but the order was still muddled. I editted each contact indivulayy and cvhanged the sort order to First Last name and now they are all sorted correctly BUT NOT in the order i wish them to be. Why is Outlook 2010 incapable of sorting contacts correctly? |

Outlook 2010 contact options can be located at File > options > Contacts.
" Not in the order you wish them to be", what order are you trying to have your contacts viewed as? Keep me posted, |

I can get them into First Name Second Name with no problems but when I try to get then into my preferred layout, Second Name, First Name then some come out OK but others remain as First Name Second Name.
All the individual contacts have a sort preference Secondname, First Name so I cannot see why it does not work. |

I have done some searching for your specific setting. It appears your contact forms are customizations as their is no fild for " Second Name". In options > Contacts, the default filing order can be set with use of the full name or Last, first / Company / last, first / company last, first.
Is your contact form a customization? You stated you can manually file them using second name, does that option for second name show in the options? Keep me posted? |

So I have stored just the firstname and last(or family)name. I would like to sort them lastname, firstname but when I do this I get some listed that way and some still listed firstname lastname. This happens despite the fact that each contact is individually formatted as lastname. firstname. If I set the global order as lastname, firstname will this take precedence over the individual setting or what? |

Yes.
Changing the defualt filling order to last first should automatically place all contacts to list as lastname firstname. this effects all new names. Note: Configuring default file as, will configure new contacts in that format. Another option is to select View Settings > Sort. By Default the first Sort Items by should be set to File As. If configured this should be last name first name as is in the contact options. if it is, change the second 'Then By' to last name should also give you the desired view. Hope this helps. |
