Unhappy marking email as "read" until email is read on local device.

I have a small business where my partner and I share an email address in order to both be "in the loop" on any coresspondence. We both have our own computers where we check that mail, as well as smart phones where we also both check that email. The problem is, if one of us reads/opens an email, it is marked as read for the other computer and/or smart phones. I'm looking for a way to make our email NOT be marked as read except on the actual device it was read/opend from. So if I check email on my phone, I'd like that particular message to still be considered "unread" on my computer and partner's computer and phone. Is there anyway to have such a set up? Currently we are missing important emails because they show as read and are looked over. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, if you are both accessing the message under the same account, this is not possible.

I suggest you might want to set the email to forward from the mailbox to each of your respective mailboxes instead. Well, at least one of you...

Can you use either the follow up flag to mark the items complete only if one of you has answered? Or how about categories? Can you create categories that represent the different states that the email is in, e.g., "I claim this as mine" or "This one is for you".

I think this technique (which I use with my tech support team) will depend on which smart phones you use and what they are capable of showing you about the email (i.e., do the phones show either the follow up or the categories).
