How can I open Office 2007.pst files in Office 2002? Any ideas?? Please help!

You cannot. MS Applications are NOT backwards compatible.

Outlook .pst file has two file formats ANSI and Unicode. Upto 2002 and its earlier versions PST files are based on ANSI format. Later versions of Outlook like 2003, 2007, 2010 use the Unicode format. Earlier versions cannot open Unicode based .pst files and can open only ANSI format files.

But you can copy the contents of the Outlook 2007 .pst file to a .pst file that has not been converted to the Outlook 2007 Unicode format. To copy information from Outlook 2007 .pst file to an ANSI-formatted .pst file, follow these steps.

Firstly you need to use a .pst file from an earlier version of Outlook then follow the below mentioned steps :

1.Open Outlook.
2.Go to File → Data File Management and click Add.
3.Click Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (PST) and click OK.
4.To accept the default name click OK and again click OK. Now Outlook 2007 creates a new .pst file which is based on the earlier .pst file and consists of the ANSI formatting for the file. Click Close.

5.Click Folder List at Navigation Pane bottom. Here in navigation pane you can see the new .pst file.

6.Drag the information from Outlook 2007 folder to this new .pst file. You can also use Import and Export Wizard from File menu to move data to new .pst file from Outlook 2007.

7.In Navigation Pane, right click on new .pst file and click Close “file_name”


Now you can open your ANSI based file in Outlook 2002.
