User cannot move email messages within Outlook Inbox folder and sub-folders.
User cannot move email messages within Outlook Inbox folder and sub-folders.
Hello, I am having issues with an Outlook user within our exchange environment. We are using Outlook 2003 & Exchange 2010. Currently the user has access to a shared exchange mailbox. The original requirements are that the user requires modify access but not delete. I have added the user to the Mailbox and all subsequent subfolders. This all works fine. Now I have had a second additional request asking if the same user can ALSO move mail between Inbox folders and subfolders. This i cant do. If this is a know issue or limitation when applying the NO DELETE permission, that's fine. But I cannot find and reference to this. Can someone please assist or point me to the correct reference URL? Thanks, Darsss. |

Darsss,
I would start with the level of permission the user is set to. Here is a list of the current levels and their respected descriptions. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...005242287.aspx Hope this helps. |

I gave the users "Owner" and then selected the option to delete "None" this seems to also have taken their ability to move items away. Just need clarification if this is expected behaviour? Cheers. |

That is expected behavior. Outlook sees the action of moving an item out of a folder as being the same as Deleting that item. If it didn't, then a user could theoretically move an item from a shared folder into a personal folder and then delete it.
The user should be able to copy the item. However, if their Delete privileges are set to "None", then they are not able to take any action that would remove an item from the folder. -SW |
