Default insert file

I need to test some HTML emails I'm coding at work.. but I find I can't send HTML emails w/Outlook, I have searched.. and all results say the same:

insert --> insert file..

but in my Outlook there's no insert file, only attach file.. (Outlook 2007 on Windows XP..)

thank you..

You do want to use the Attach File icon. It will open the Insert File dialog. Select the HTML file that you want to insert. Then, click on the drop-down arrow in the Insert button, and select "Insert as text". This will embed the content into the email message rather than simply attaching it as a file.

Hope this helps.

The Insert button itself should have a little triangle on its right side. Clicking on that triangle will open the drop-down menu which will have the "insert as text" option. Here's a screenshot:

oh man.. thank you very much.. it's a bit tricky.. you have just select the file you want to insert then hit that 'insert' at bottom of dialog (if you click on the file it gets attached and the dialog disappears..)

just made the horrible discovery Outlook doesn't support CSS in HTML emails (not even inline, all my CSS code in inline..) now WHY is this? most other email clients support it (even webmail-based email like yahoo, for crying out loud..)

thank you..

Unfortunately Outlook's HTML capabilities are about as robust as IE4. Formatting is pretty much limited to using tables.

If you have a web host where you can put the HTML data on the web, you can try the copy+paste technique. Basically navigate to the location where the page is hosted. Then select the contents of the page (there's no Select All, so you'll have to just drag the cursor over everything). Then Copy, and Paste into a new message body. I have no idea if it will maintain the CSS formatting, but it's probably worth a shot.
