Default Reading pane (pain!!!)

My reading pane turns off each time I exit Outlook and I must restart it every time & re-open Outlook. How can I make the reading pane the default view when Outlook opens?

Angus,

Your outlook may not be set as your default mail application. Try performing this command switch for Outlook 2007 to enable it as your default mail client and try again.

To run Outlook with a command line switch, use the following steps:

Windows XP:
  • Click Start.
  • Click Run.
  • Enter the following in the Run dialog box (with quotations):
    "c:\program files\microsoft office\office12\Outlook.exe" /checkclient
  • Click OK.

/checkclient - Prompts to make Outlook the default application for email, news, and contacts.

Thanks for the suggestion but entering this command did not make a difference.

Any other suggestions?

Your view settings may be bugged. I'd recommend trying the /cleanviews command switch. Basically follow the same steps that SpiderTech described, but use /cleanviews instead of /checkclient. This command switch will clear all custom views and reset your view back to default. Once you're back in Outlook after running the switch, set your view to however you want it to look, and see if Outlook keeps it.

Hope this helps.
