Default Out-of-office auto reply - how?

Hello

I do not have an exchange server, therefore I understand that having the out-of-office option under tools menu is not feasible.

I was advised to create a rule, which I have done. This only works when Outlook is opened and the message has been received.

I need a setting where emails that are sent to me when I am offline and the computer is closed down, are replied to with an automatic message.

Can this be done?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Neal

If your are using a rule to auto-reply your mail client (Outlook) must be running in order to receive and then reply to the messages.

That being said most mail servers do have a out of office reply feature. You will want to contact your admin to configure this.

neal_dodd,

Unfortunately any rule created in the outlook client require outlook to open for them to function correctly if not on an exchange platform. however, your hosted mail provider may have a client side rule system in place that will allow you to make this this type of rule.

Who is your mail provider? It may be possible to search for this feature.

best Regards,

Hi

Thanks for the replies.

We run a small business so don't really have anyone to turn to. Our broadband is provided by Orange Business, is that what you mean?

Will it help if we were to upgrade to a more recent version of Office?

Neal,

Upgrading to Office 2007 or 2010 still require you to have Outlook running when a rule is created if your email provider, Gmail, hotmail or live, does not support server side rules.

Who is providing you email? Is it Google or Microsoft?

Keep us posted,

Thanks for letting me know.

We have Microsoft Outlook, and the broadband that we use is Orange Business. When I open up the email accounts, it is described as Internet Email Settings (POP3)

There must surely be a way of getting a simple out of office?!!

Thanks for your continued help.
