Default Sharepoint2010 and Outlook

Hi all, I am running sharepoint 2010 workspace in our office, I haven't yet setup a sharepoint server, although sharepoint workspace seems to share calendar information with all the users that i add to my "Groove Workspace".

What i'm wandering is; Is it possible to syncronise sharepoint workspace calendar with outlook calendar?
Without setting up the sharepoint server, and using the sharepoint web ui.

Our server is currently running our companies intranet, and apparently another member of staff tried setting up Sharepoint on the server, which in turn knocked off the organisations intranet.

basically just syncing the workspace client and outlook.

Any ideas? Or do you think that i would have to setup the server?

Cheers!!

Theoretically you should be able to collaborate over SharePoint Workspace without a SharePoint installation. SPW is largely the next version of MS Groove 2007, which was a peer-to-peer collaboration software that could sync with SP. SPW is more SP oriented, but it does keep that Groove peer-to-peer connectivity.

Unfortunately I think it's still too early to tell just how capable that peer-to-peer functionality will be. From what I've seen, the intention behind SPW was to allow users to sync libraries and lists from SP and then use them off-line. Peer-to-peer syncing is a way to share and maintain updates, but I have a feeling that the program is always going to want to dock with the SP mothership at some point.

If you limit to the calendar you should be fine. Just keep in mind that the way SPW syncs between workspaces is by having a complete copy of the workspace on each machine. If you're trying to maintain libraries in SPW, this could result in a lot of space and resource usage.

My $0.02, for what it's worth.

Yeah good point!!!
I think my organisation wants to go for the full blown sharepoint experience anyway, but at the moment the only thing they want to do is use the calendar, so that they can check to see whose free for meetings, and that sort of thing.
So if I find a couple of minutes i'll have a look through the sharepoint manual and get the server up and running... There are also a couple of sharepoint for dummies style books knocking around, one of them must explain how to create a server, when there is already an intranet in play
