Good Morning,
This morning one of our users had an interesting problem. He complained that Outlook was deleting his e-mails automatically, so I went to see if a filter was applied and he simply couldn't see his messages. Indeed, that was the case so I turned the filter off and told him what happened. A bit later, he called me up again and said it was "deleting the e-mails" again. When I checked again, the filter was again applied. I asked him if he was applying any filters, and he said no. In fact, he didn't even know you could apply filters. Does anyone have any idea why a filter would be "applying itself?" We're not using Exchange; we just have a simple POP3 setup. This user is the only one experiencing the problem. The filter name that keeps popping up just seems like jibberish to me. It's a bunch of random characters. Any help would be great as I can't seem to find anything about this problem in the few hours that I've been searching. |

The gibberish filter title suggests there some corruption in the Outlook views. Try starting Outlook with the /cleanviews command switch. Easiest way to do this is to just Open the Start menu, click run, and type in "Outlook /cleanviews" (no quotes).
The /cleanviews command switch will remove any custom views and reset all of Outlook's views to default. Hope this helps. -SW |

Thanks, so much! I won't be able to try this out until Friday morning, but I will definitely give it a shot and post my results.

It's Friday morning, finally! Anyhow, I just got through trying the /cleanviews command. The filter still appears in the drop-down filters list, but that may be normal. I told the user to report any more problems to me when they occur, but I'm hoping that will fix the issue. Thanks again!
