My question is how do I keep this update from occuring again?
Go to Windows Update from the Control Panel

Select Change Settings from the menu on the left

Select the option "Check For Updates But let Me Choose Whether To Download And Install Them"

Select OK

You're finished

My post was in response to an earlier post instructions to uninstall, reboot, and be fine. I was suggesting that you may not need to reboot. I hadn't seen your post when I posted. However, there are options with some updates to instruct not to look at or request the update again. You would have to catch it in the detailed list and reject it. I'm not sure exactly what instructions to give you as I'd have to do it again myself.

@mtwasher:

You can disable automatic updates.

I had a similar problem - 6 second delay switching from folder to folder - removal of KB2412171 patch worked.

Thanks bjennison

Default Time Waster!

I too experienced the same problem yesterday. The thing that frustrates me the most, is that when you are in a routine with your work and something like this happens, it not only disrupts your work, but in my case it took 4 hours yesterday and 2 hours this morning (in Australia) before I found SWASSOCIATES solution. I followed swassociates advice and I am now back to normal. Thank you so very much! I wonder if MS fully realises the consequences of massive loss in time, productivity and the sheer frustration this causes? Wonder how many people, around the World, will spend their whole weekend trying to fix the problem.

Default Solution worked

Just thought I'd add to the list of users who had this problem, and solved it by the suggested solution - to uninstall KB2412171, and turn off automatic updates.

Thank you !

Although I did eliminate the issue by uninstalling the referenced update...I thought I would add that I also upgraded to Office 2010 64 bit and it's way better! I would recommend it.

Yah I had the same problem. I was so mad... I spent an hour and a half removing all the updates that went through that night, only to shut down and restart and watch them all reinstall. Nice job MS! How about a free upgrade to Office 10 for the effort I wasted!

Then I was totally frustrated and have been living with it untill finding this post. You made my day

The response below worked great. Remove Update KB2412171.

Thank goodness for Google, I was ready to give up on this problem.

Uninstalling KB2412171 did the trick, and I turned off automatic updates.

Default My pst file was corrupted beyond repair

Following the update my Outlook.pst was corrupted. It could not be repaired. I had to revert back to my backup.

I experienced the slowdown with the backed up version. Uninstalling the update corrected the problem.

Thank you.

Irfan

I have the same problem and my archive folders have disappeared.

Smile Thanks!

Wow - I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and this forum got me back on track. I really appreciate it. Less than 5 minutes reading and doing, and Outlook is able to switch views again. THANKS!
