Viewing Faxes.
G'day to all.
Up until yesterday, I was able to open a fax received in Outlook2K3. Now when I try to view OR save the TIFF attachment, I get the following error message: "Can't create the file FAX.TIFF. Right Click the folder you want to create the file in ..." I guess my first question would be Why is this now happening. Nothing has changed on the PC. My Second question would be: What folder is Outlook talking about. I've checked the Temporary Internet Folder, the user TEMP dir, Windows Temp dir etc. Does anyone know how to fix this. I've got about 80 faxes sitting there that I cannot access and I need to. Thanks W. |

Re: Viewing Faxes.
Doesn't sound like a fax problem to me.
Sounds like an Outlook Secure Temp Folder problem. With Outlook closed, click Start>Run and enter %TEMP% in the Open field. Click OK. You should see a Windows Explorer window with the folder list in the left-hand pane. (If you don't see the folder list in Windows XP, click the Folders button in the toolbar.) Just below the folder named Temp you should see one called Temporary Internet Files. Click the plus sign to its left. You should then see a subfolder whose name starts with OLK. Select this folder so that it's contents display in the right-hand pane. Click Edit>Select All and then click the Delete button (or press Delete or click File>Delete). Close the Explorer window and restart Outlook. Your attachment should open now. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] |

Re: Viewing Faxes.
Hi Russ. I've actually done all that yesterday to no avail. I can forward
the msg to another user and all is well, so the problem is definately on my system. Any other ideas? W. |

Re: Viewing Faxes.
One more thing Russ, there is no folder starting with OLK. SO I looked at
another users machiine and saw they had a folder called OLK1 & OLKS so I added these - still no go. Wiley |

Re: Viewing Faxes.
I should also note that we can open another other attachment, this appears
only to be with TIF files. There is nothing in the registry under Level1Remove. Wiley |

Re: Viewing Faxes.
I have no idea how you could have no OLK file if you have Outlook installed.
Something else must be wrong here. What is your file association for TIF files? How is it that you receive faxes in Outlook 2003? Its Inbox does not integrate with any modem faxing programs. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] |

Re: Viewing Faxes.
But you must have some client side fax software installed to communicate
with SBS Fax. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Wiley Coyote" <wiley@mentorits.com> wrote in message news:uCfXKmzsFHA.2532@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... Quote:

Re: Viewing Faxes.
Thanks again. Actually MS Fax Server saves the incoming fax as a TIF, then
simply sends an smtp message to the user with an attachment. There is no "Client Side" software other than Outlook. We've actually been doing this with clients for years. BTW, as I said previously, this just started failing last Wed/Thur, up til then it worked for over two years. So this is why I'm confused. So something in the my Outlook (becuase other uses get emails with the attachments and can open/save them) has changed to prevent me from opening TIF files, but all others open and view just fine. Re: Viewing Faxes.
That might explain why there is no OLK file.
Unfortunately, this is an environment with which I am unfamiliar. I'm surprised you can even get faxes routed to Outlook 2003's Inbox. What client fax software are you using on these boxes? You may need to redirect to an SBS group. I do recall that Office 2003 changes the file association for TIF files from the Fax viewer to MODI. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Wiley Coyote" <wiley@mentorits.com> wrote in message news:eu7XotysFHA.2212@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... Re: Viewing Faxes.
Hi Russ. It's an SBS2K environment with Exch2K, Fax Server (SBS 2K) and
Win2K. This all worked fine up until last week.In fact, I added another user to the FaxGroup and she gets the fax attachments and can open them just fine. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" <russval@gmail.com> wrote in message news:%23o8iIkysFHA.4036@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... Quote:

Re: Viewing Faxes.
Don't know why the OLK folder was missing, but I recreated it and the same
issue. MS Viewer associated withTIF, Outlook receives faxes from MS Fax Server. Weve tried everything, even changing file permissions. This is quite annoying... Thanks Russ. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" <russval@gmail.com> wrote in message news:uRbX9sAsFHA.3732@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... Quote:

Re: Viewing Faxes.
By "MSViewer" do you mean Microsoft Office Document Imaging, as in:
"<drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\11.0\MSPVIEW.EXE" "%1" ? By MS Fax Server, do you meanWindows 2003 Server Fax? Is this an Exchange environment? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Wiley Coyote" <wiley@mentorits.com> wrote in message news:uxMvXZysFHA.4036@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... Quote:

Re: Viewing Faxes.
No sir. Nothing is required client side. SBS Fax Server receives the
incoming fax, saves it as a TIF, then sends an email to the recipient. In any case, the problem is with Outlook 2K3, not the Fax Server, Win2K or anything else because it works with three other users. Thanks tho... Re: Viewing Faxes.
I see.
Unfortunately, you're the only one for whom deleting the contents of OLK hasn't worked, so I have no idea. Post back when you figure it out. I agree it sounds like an OL2K3 problem. The Fax Service is no longer in the picture since you're talking about an email with an attachment now. Did you ever tell me what the file association for TIF was or what you meant by MSViewer? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Wiley Coyote" <wiley@mentorits.com> wrote in message news:uPWv4I9sFHA.1172@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl...
