0x80070057 Email Hangs in Outbox
Greetings,
I work within an Enterprise Messaging team in a large corporation. We are experience a reoccuring problem with a company we have recently migrated. For the sake of simplicity, our company is CORP, and the migrated company is MERG. MERG users run Outlook 2007 on Windows XP Pro SP3. CORP users run Windows 7 Enterprise and mostly Outlook 2007 - some Outlook 2010. All users use Exchange 2007. Currently MERG's MX has been flipped to CORPs, and all the MERG users's mailboxes have been migrated to CORPs exchange. However, the AD/DNS Servers are still within MERG and are currently undergoing migrations. Just wanted to give you a rundown of what our infrastructure currently looks like... Now, I'm assuming this is an outlook problem, and not an exchange problem. But we have alot of users with MERG that are experiencing emails hanging in the outbox and giving the 0x80070057 Error indicating the some parameters were wrong. The messages are only external(SMTP) messages. Internal messages are sent with not issues, even with a message hanging. Just to clear this up before anyone tells me how to fix this, I know how to fix it. Our method is restart the system. If that doesn't work, create a temp folder within the users mailbox and move the stuck messages in the outbox and try sending a test message to an external address. If that fails, we recreate the profile. This normally works. Now, since we moved the messages to a temp folder within the mailbox, the messages are saved on the server - so we move them back to the outbox and click send - and it works. Were as before recreating the profile this would result in the 0x80070057 error. I thought at first it was a Mailformed Message issue and MAPI was throwing a fit - but thats not the case. If the message was malformed before I moved it to the temp folder, it would still be malformed - I'm guessing. Also, this issue doesn't happen within CORP, only MERG. What we need to know is WHY this is happening. It is occuring to the MERG group with about 10 to 15 users a day with this issue. The method we use fixes it, but we need to find the source of the problem. Any Ideas? |
