I have been having problems emailing to Gmail and Yahoo users, using MS Outlook 2019, Win 11.
I tried many Outlook settings variations (including POP and IMAP variations), and no help, and Outlook gave unhelpful error messages eg there was a problem, retry. I tried SCANPST, it said errors, I then repaired... but I then immediately ran scanpst a second time, and it still says errors. I then tried a 3rd time, and then it says "Only minor inconsistencies were found. Repairing the file is optional" (even though there is no longer an option to Repair). I loaded Outlook and unloaded it immediately, ran scanpst, but it said errors. This implies any use of Outlook damages PST, ie cause errors to appear in scanpst. Or scanpst doesn't repair errors despite saying it does. I assume 1.7GB is not too large for PST, because I googled and it says 50GB is limit. Is there some switch (scanpst.exe /?) that makes it more powerful? If not, can you suggest a more powerful but free/cheap PST repairer? There is DataNumen and OutlookFix but they charge $199, and there is no guarantee they will fix my original problem emailing to Gmail and Yahoo. |

I've had similar problems. Not sure this is the best method, but it worked for me and I don't think it can hurt.
If you're able to open Outlook after running scanpst, do these steps BEFORE you exit: 1. Check for messages that have large attachments. If you still need the attachments, save them outside of Outlook and then delete the messages in Outlook. I did this in my Inbox and Sent messages folder. 2. Delete as many other messages as you dare. (I deleted thousands.) 3. Delete as many messages from the Deleted folder as you can. Maybe all of them. 4. Right-click your mailbox. Choose "Data File Properties" from the context menu. Click "Advanced", and then click "Compact Now." If you deleted many messages during the above steps, compaction will take a long time. This is the only way to shrink a bloated pst file. 5. When compaction is done, exit Outlook. Restart Outlook, and hopefully you're good to go! |

Hi
My problem isn't being able to open Outlook. It is some gmails and all yahoos sent from Optusnet account using MS Outlook 2019, don't reach their destination. No error. I have done extensive testing of Account Settings variations, most involve errors (vague message like unable to use this setting - retry?. I tried using optusnet settings and someone here's setting. but none work. I also tried other repairers, better than scanpst, but no luck as still some gmails that don't my emails from optusnet. I am starting to get desperate, as some gmail people are complaining I am not emailing them. Any other suggestions? |

Partial positive news...
More of my gmail friends are receiving emails now. This was after I changed outgoing server from mail.optusnet.com.au to smtp.optusnet.com.au (no doc of this setting). However yahoo addresses including my own dummy one are still not receiving emails. |

In MS Outlook 2019, my settings are:
Incoming: -POP3 (not imap because it doesn't save sent emails to sent items in current pst... and Send/Receive is disabled from Outlook/Home) -Port: 995 (I tried others) -Mail Server: mail.optusnet.com.au Outgoing: -Port: 25 (I tried others) -Mail Server: smpt.optusnet.com.au (if set to mail.optusnet.com.au, half of emails to gmail accounts don't arrive - no error) -Encryption: starttls (I tried others) -Tick "My outgoing server requires authentication" |

Important Update:
I also sent a test email from Optusnet's WebMail site to my dummy Yahoo email address and it arrived. However, I sent same test email to same dummy Yahoo from Outlook 2019, and it never reaches (but no error either). So this proves after all that the problem lies with Outlook 2019 (regardless of scanpst not fixing errors). So where to now if a bug in Outlook 2019? Last edited by sidr; 03-20-2023 at 12:17 AM. |
