Default outlook mail config

I'm sure this is a config issue. I had to do a clean install of the OS recently and have not figured this out yet.

I'm am running Office 2003 I have mail at the office in Microsoft Exchange Server.
I also get pop3 mail from Gmail.
I get email from Gmail and the server while at work.
Then from home I get from gmail and it tries to get to the server and fails (which is to be expected).

Previously, everything worked as expected - I did not rcv exchange mail at home. The system would just say server not available.
NOW...It appears that it is trying too hard to connect to the non-existent server.

When I write an email and then hit SEND (from home), the SEND button stays highlighted and everything hangs up for about a full minute and then It comes back and I am able to hit send/receive.

When receiving mail while at home it also hangs up for a minute or 2.

It does actually send and receive mail it just hangs up. The Outlook screen goes blank and the send/receive progress pop-up goes blank. Then a minute or so later, the outlook screen comes back and the progress screen comes back.

It does not connect to the work server from home. The server is set up to not allow us to connect from outside. If we want server mail while away from the office, we have to connect to exchange web mail.

I don't expect to connect to the server and get mail, I just want the system to not hang up while trying to connect.

I would first check to see if you have the exchange server profile still configured on your home client.

Removing your exchange account and profile should resolve this issue. Your client is most likely attempting to access this server.

Hope this helps,

thx for the reply.
I think what u are telling me would prevent obtaining server mail at the office.
That isn't what I want to do. I need to prevent it from hanging up trying to connect to a non-existent server at home.

If it doesn't see the server it should just say it isn't there not hang trying to find/connect to it. - which it did before the reinstall.
