Default Problem with exported folders

Hello,

my colleague (on Office 365) saved his mail folder including his own sub folders into a *.pst file. He also granted access to his folders.

When I try to access those folders via my Outlook (on Office 2016) I can only see his mails but not his subfolders. When I try to open his *.pst file it does not work.

Vice versa it works, i.e. if I create a *.pst file he can open it.

Maybe incompatibility problems ?

Since he will leave the company soon it is very important that I have access to his mails of the past several years because admin has to leave his account as soon as he left the company.

Any hints how we could solve the problem mentioned above or any other ideas how we can solve the problem.
