Default Recurring folder tree created in Deleted Items folder

I am currently running Windows 11 with Outlook 365. The issue I describe below was also present when running the previous version of Windows and Outlook; Windows 10 with Outlook 2019. I do not recall when and why this issue began but the issue has persisted after upgrading to Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 was installed on a brand new computer running Windows 11.

My issue is rather innocuous but if it is possible to find a solution that would be nice.

Here is the issue:
When Outlook starts up or I move from one folder to another (eg: Inbox to Sent Items) Outlook creates a folder tree in the Deleted Items folder. All folders and subfolders in the folder tree are empty and it always creates the same folder tree every time (image attached). If I empty the Deleted Items folder and then move to a different folder it recreates the same folder tree again in the Deleted Items folder. This happens over and over again. If the folder tree is already present in the Deleted Items folder and I move to a different folder it will not create a second instance of the folder tree.

Since two of the folders in the folder tree are named “Archive” and “Archive (2)” I thought this may be an AutoArchive issue but it does not appear to be. Autoarchive is not set to run in any individual folder and in Outlook Options – Advanced – AutoArchive is not set to run at all.

I then thought it may be a “Conversation Cleanup” issue but I do not believe it is that either.

One of the folders in the folder tree is named “Contcts”. I recall years ago misnaming a folder “Contcts” but it was deleted shortly thereafter so I don’t know where it is finding that folder. The other folders in the folder tree are names of actual folders I use. Some of them are in other Outlook data files that are not even open.

I have Googled, ad nauseum, for a solution but I have not found one in the years this has been happening. I am at the point where I would like to try and solve this issue. Can anyone lead me down a new path to determine the solution? Many thanks.

Update with additional information

Since I started this thread i have found out the following:

1. I cannot right click and delete any folders in the folder tree. 'Delete' is greyed out. I can delete all the folders with 'Empty Deleted Items Folder'

2. This one is probably important. I backed up my IMAP .ost file and then renamed it so Outlook would recreate a new .ost file. When it recreated the new .ost file the same folder tree appeared. I logged on to my webmail and there is no evidence of the folder tree.

Now, when I open Outlook, there are three other .pst data files opened as well. I guess it is time to close them and see the effect on this folder tree ???

OK, another update.

1. The folders are not subscribed folders so I cannot unsubscribe them.

2. It is not due to any of the secondary .pst files.

3. It is not due to Add-Ins. I disabled all Add-ins and the problem continued.

4. I used the MFCMAPI tool to delete the folders and they returned.

I believe these folders reside on the IMAP server. I will call my ISP and see if they can delete them from my account.
