How do I reply to an email and insert text into original
I'm using Outlook 365. When I reply to an email occasionally I want to insert text into the sender's email to me such as "this is incorrect" or "Yes, this figure is right" and so forth. With Outlook installed I could do this and I would use blue font to separate my comments from the original text from the sender.
For some reason with Outlook 365 I cannot insert text into the sender's email. Is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to do this? |

bump
I am going to bump this thread from last year because again today I wanted to reply to an email on Outlook online and insert text into the email I received. There's got to be a way to do this if I could do it on Outlook installed.

Buried in a ribbon in every email message is a command to enable the editing of an email message. In Outlook 2019, it's here:
"Message" tab "Actions" widget (which is about half way across the screen) "Edit message" menu item In other words, the command is in a location nobody would ever guess! For reasons I don't understand, the command is not available in every email message. This sequence might get you there by pressing only four keys, one after another: F10 h a e No guarantee the "Edit message" command is in the same location, or can be reached via the same key sequence, in other versions of Outlook. |

Yes, that is the way it works with Outlook installed. But with Outlook 365 I'm not seeing it.

Are you using the desktop version of Outlook, or the web version?

The web version, the Outlook app that comes with Office 365.

The web version of Outlook limited compared to the local version. I don't think there's a way to edit received messages. The best you may be able to do is forward a message, add your notes, and email it to yourself.

SOLVED: How do I reply ...
I knew there was a way. What I have to do it hit reply first, and then I can enter text into the original incoming email. Here's a junk email I received from somebody wanting to sell me LED lights. The screenshot is after I hit reply. See my inserted text in blue.
Obviously I did not actually reply, but you see how simple it is to insert text. Why didn't I figure this out beforehand? Thanks to all who replied. You challenged me to find a way to do it! |
