I am trying to add 4 email addresses to Outlook 2019. I am able to add email accounts for 2 eznet.net email accounts but it won't let add my gmail accounts.
I'm hoping that someone can review the following information and tell me what the problem is. When I set up the eznet accounts, I was presented with the dialog to fill in the server names, port and encryption method. No problem. Everything worked fine. When I try to set up a gmail, I get this message: "Something went wrong We couldn't connect to the incoming (IMAP) server using the specified encryption method." When I click Change Account Settings the dialog box is pre-filled in with: imap.gmail.com, 993, SSL/TLS smtp.gmail.com, 465, SSL/TLS Clicking Connect causes the error screen to reappear. My gmail settings look like this: IMAP access: Status: IMAP is enabled o Enable IMAP Disable IMAP When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted: o Auto-Expunge on - Immediately update the server. (default) Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server. When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder: o Archive the message (default) Move the message to the Trash Immediately delete the message forever Folder size limits o Do not limit the number of messages in an IMAP folder (default) Limit IMAP folders to contain no more than this many messages 1,000 In addition, I've got gmail set to Allow Less Secure Apps. Due to the encryption issue, I never get to the screen where I should be able to enter my gmail password, etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. |

If you're having trouble connecting your Gmail account to Outlook or Mail for Windows 10, this might be due to your Gmail settings. Follow the steps below to change your Gmail settings and fix the issue.
Step 1: Enable IMAP IMAP must be enabled in Gmail before you can connect your account. In a browser, go to Gmail.com. Select Settings > Settings. Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. Under IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP. Select Save Changes. Step 2: Change SMTP & other settings in your email client Open Manage Connected Accounts in Outlook.com Use the table below to check you have the correct information: Incoming mail (IMAP) server imap.gmail.com Requires SSL: Yes Port: 993 Outgoing mail (SMTP) server smtp.gmail.com Requires SSL: Yes Requires TLS: Yes (if available) Requires Authentication: Yes Port for SSL: 465 Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587 Full name or display name Your name Account name, username or email address Your full email address Password Your Gmail password Step 3: Enable folders Outlook and Mail for Windows 10 need access to your folders in Gmail. Make sure that the folders are set to show in IMAP. In a browser, go to Gmail.com. Select Settings > Settings. Select the Labels tab. Make sure that Show in IMAP is selected for Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail. You can also select Show in IMAP for other labels that you want to see in Outlook or Mail for Windows 10. Step 4: Refresh Outlook or Mail for Windows 10 Once you've enabled IMAP in Gmail and set your Gmail folders to show in IMAP, refresh Outlook or Mail for Windows 10. Note: It can take up to 15 minutes for syncing to refresh. Outlook.com and Outlook on the web: Select the refresh button in your browser's URL bar. Outlook 2016 for Mac: On the ribbon, select Organize > Sync Folder. Mail for Windows 10: Above the message list, select Sync this view . I hope these steps will be useful to resolve your issues. Matt,
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, everything you have suggested has already been done. Step 1: Already done Step 3: Already done Step 2 is where the issue occurs: If you review my original post you will see that I posted the server settings from my email client (Outlook) and they match what you have posted. The main issue is that I never get to the screen where I can enter the full name, full email address, password, etc. because I get stopped by the error message which reads: "We couldn't connect to the incoming (IMAP) server using the specified encryption method." Since I can't get past that message, I can not go any further. |
