After update from Outlook 2010 to 2020, I can't add extra accounts.
Using Outlook 2010 for years, I had a general POP3 account <businessname@domain.co.uk> (with domain being a Fasthosts one... just using Outlook to handle the emails). I also had extra accounts such as <personal@domain.co.uk> — these would send with their own signature and 'Reply to' address. The incoming mails to those addresses were forwarders to <businessname@domain.co.uk>, so that everything came in to the same general Inbox, but had their separate identities. Everything was saved locally to outlook.pst.
I have now updated to Outlook 2020, and set up the general account to IMAP, transferring emails to outlook.pst as appropriate. But try as I might, I can't set up the extra identities. I click the 'Add Account' button and select POP3, but whatever I do (whether I let Outlook set it up for itself, or do it manually) it is always 'Something went wrong — we couldn't connect to the incoming POP3 server'. So I'm unable to send from <personal@domain.co.uk>... this was a very useful facility that I want to continue with. I've tried alternative incoming and outgoing servers, but the message is always the same. I'm obviously missing something. |

Did you ever find a resolution to this issue?
My Windows 10 PC was recently forced perform updates and Outlook 2016 stopped working after that. Final action had me clear, install, and setup a clean Outlook profile. I was able to get 3 accounts back into it but am encountering the same type of issue with the 4th account. Just sits and spins for hours without accomplishing anything. If you were able to resolve it and can recall how you did that, I'd appreciate hearing how it was accomplished. |

I'm afraid I can't help much — a great deal of family upheaval occurred shortly afterwards, and my memory of what happened is very hazy. I know that a couple of months ago I tried setting up a new '###@outlook.com' account because there is evidence to suggest that emails from my specific domain '###@teeafit.co.uk' quite often get flagged as spam for an unknown reason — just Microsoft being twitchy! — and are not read by the recipient.
But it wasn't a success, as it made the operation of my Outlook system too clunky, and I couldn't be bothered to try to sort it out. I've now deleted that new account. What I DO have now is an IMAP mailbox that received all my incoming mail, which I then move to other folders in my outlook.pst files as appropriate. I don't think that's an answer to your question, though. I just wish that Microsoft would stop 'improving' things, and making them 'easier' for computer newbies — inevitably it makes it a darn sight more difficult for old hands who cut their teeth on Windows XP (or even an Amstrad PCW!) Best Wishes, G. |
