MS Outlook 2016 Notes date written lost
Hi I have been using MS Notes to record my time when adding material to a website. I have not dated the notes as Notes displays the date they are written in a footer. Owing to Covid-19 I have been getting behind on invoicing my clients. So I thought that I would add a subfolder for the 2020 notes. So I added the 2020 notes to the subfolder. I then found that each of the notes had changed the date to todays date. The original notes are now missing in the main folder and I can't find a way of restoring them. Does anyone know how I can reverse the Notes to the previous state?
UPDATE: the oriignal dates are still displpayed in the list but when I try to open one it shows todays date. Last edited by ggeoff; 09-07-2020 at 09:05 AM. Reason: further information |

The creation date of the note remains the date it was created. The date at the bottom of the note is the date it was last edited. You can view the creation date if you set the view to Notes List and you can edit that view to display either the creation date, the last edited date or both. What you can't do is recover the previous last edited date.

Hi thanks gmayor. Yes I agree with that. The issue actually is that when I try to view the note, or print it, the creation last edited details are missing -the current day's date is displayed instead. Outlook Notes seem to regard viewing the note or printing it as an edit. I regard this as a bug.
I have just printed a note that I have not edited, just opened and used Quick Print to print it and the printed note states "Modified Tues 08/09/2020 09:51". Last edited by ggeoff; 09-08-2020 at 02:06 AM. Reason: error |

Hmmm. I see the problem, but it can be addressed with a little vba jiggery pokery. Try the following Outlook macro which creates a temporary note with the added creation date from the original added in place of the modified date.
Code:
Sub PrintNote() 'Graham Mayor - https://www.gmayor.com - Last updated - 10 Sep 2020 Dim olNote As Outlook.NoteItem Dim olTempNote As Outlook.NoteItem Dim dDate As Date Dim strDate As String On Error Resume Next Select Case Outlook.Application.ActiveWindow.Class Case olInspector Set olNote = ActiveInspector.currentItem Case olExplorer Set olNote = Application.ActiveExplorer.Selection.Item(1) End Select dDate = Split(olNote.CreationTime, Chr(32))(0) strDate = "Created:" & vbTab & Format(CStr(dDate), "ddd ") & olNote.CreationTime Set olTempNote = CreateItem(olNoteItem) With olTempNote .Body = "Created:" & vbTab & Format(CStr(dDate), "ddd ") & _ olNote.CreationTime & vbCr & vbCr & _ olNote.Body .PrintOut .Delete End With lbl_Exit: Set olNote = Nothing Set olTempNote = Nothing Exit Sub End Sub

Thanks Graham When I opened an older note today it showed the creation date correctly. When I closed the note and reopened it the creation date dispayed on the note had changed to todays date 10sept.
I do not know how to run macros and to be honest I do not have the time. Last edited by ggeoff; 09-10-2020 at 02:02 AM. Reason: additional info |
