Default gmail not syncing in Outlook 2010

We are moving away from Sky because they wont support Outlook 2010 (with Windows 10/1909 + AVG).

We have tried to setup our gmail account which we had as an alternative.

However although we have set up IMAP on the Gmail a/c as well as clicking the option for less secure apps, we are also using imap.gmail.com/SSL/993. We have been unable to sync the account since we set it up some 10 hours ago. we know our password is correct as we can sign in via Chrome

we get the following diagnostic:

Task 'Synchronizing subscribed folders for abc@gmail.com' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for abc@gmail.com. Error: Cannot connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Anyone make a suggestion please?
