Any tricks on getting BCM to run on a VPN connection?

I opened up the port 56183 on both sides. And still can't get BCM to open a database connection to the server.

I can get to a shared drive on the server fine.
But SQL Server Service Manager on my laptop can not connect to the server. Any tips???
