Question Oulook 16 - Blocking Gmail Receive

I have been experiencing intermittent problems with receiving Gmail through Outlook for several months. Only Gmail is affected and my ISP-related email accounts work as usual. Initially I found that I had to treat Outlook as a 'less secure app' in Google parlance, but now the message I receive from Outlook for both my Gmail accounts is "Task '******@gmail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC1A) : 'Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.'". It was then that I found the extent to which Microsoft has modified the once very familiar Outlook Account Settings format, making it very difficult for me to navigate and change settings. Any help or advice gratefully received.
