Auto Complete Feature Outlook 2010 Sending Emails
Due the MS support of Windows Live Mail 2012 to be discontinued I am moving email to Outlook 2010. I have already noticed a problem with 'Auto Complete' email addresses while sending emails. I have just under 1K contacts in my list. I have finally added to the Auto complete file and it works somewhat. BUT I only get the email address 'Auto Complete', which isn't always indicative of the person's name. The alias could be anything without the proper name reference, if you know what I mean. For example if I had a contact 'Ken & Wanda Summers' email:lagonesouth@gmail.com and typed in WAN in the TO field of the message box I get nothing.
If I go to the CONTACTS search field folder in Outlook and type WAN it finds the contact entry and shows the email as well as all the other record data. I think there is some logic missing. I would think it should search the name field and show the name, and email of that contact. How many of your contacts have any resemblance of their name to their alias's? I used WL Mail 2012 for years and they had it figured out with no problem. Can I change the search function to search for the name and when I select the right name it completes with the right email address? (email addresses always have @ symbol). Illogical?? In other words - Can I make it search for the Name, and once selected, use the email in either of the TO/CC/BCC fields? |

You can do just about anything you wish with your autocomplete address file with NK2Edit: Edit AutoComplete files (.NK2) of Microsoft Outlook

Outlook Update
Well I have found most of my problems - did not get the 'Mapping option' first go around of importing contacts to Outlook. Second I had to delete Roam files, then copy all contacts for TO/CC/BCC fields, into dummy message while 'Off line'. BUT I wonder if anyone ever thought of: I think most people now a days do not use their name in the 'Name' part of their email address. If you have 6-700 or more contacts for that matter, can you remember their aliases they use on all their accounts? Why do we make it so difficult for a program to be useful? For example; In the TO field or any of the fields, the first letter or two of the person's first name, the program shows the choices with their email address beside their name. You choose the right person by their name and the program places their email in the chosen field. VIOLA!! Done. Why should I have to run an external program fiddle with it's operation and learn it for Outlook. I guess I just trying to keep things simple. Still working on WLM to Outlook.
