Default Category transfer to created task

Outlook 2016... I have Quick Steps set up to create tasks from emails, with 3 steps:
1. Categorize Message
2. Create a task with text of message
3. Set importance

Worked great for a long time. Today, I decided to try conversation view for my mail. Then, when I created some tasks using my quick step the category didn't carry over to the newly created tasks like it used to. So of course I turned off conversation view and tried again, and it worked just fine. I can't seem to find a setting that may affect that behavior. If I have to, the category carrying over to my tasks outweighs the conversation view, but I'd like to have both. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
