Default Some contacts are listed in groups I don't want

When my contacts were moved to Outlook 2010 from 2007, quite a few of them were moved to a "company" group, and some others were listed in still another group. None of these names appear any longer in my regular address book where I want them. I have tried deleting the groups and re-entering the contacts, but that recreates the group. All suggestions welcome!
