Default Size of Outlook Ribbon Changes When Ribbon Is Pinned

Hello,

Office 365 just updated to a new version of Outlook and now my Ribbon seems way to large when pinned. Here is what happens. If I unpin it, it goes away. When I click "Home" or any other tab on the Ribbon, it comes up at the normal size. But the second I click Pin (or Ctrl + F1) it increases in vertical size by almost 50% (see both images). This takes up way too much screen and is distracting. Any ideas on how to fix would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are in Touch Mode.
Have a look on the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) for a Touch/Mouse Mode icon:

. . . . clicking it gives two options – Touch & Mouse. Toggle between them to see the difference.

If you don’t have the icon showing, r/click the QAT > Customize Quick Access Toolbar > Choose commands from > Popular commands > Scroll to Touch/Mouse Mode > Add > OK.

Thumbs up

Registered to say thanks Moonshine for the solution.

Could you please post what application you used to make the GIF? I use the Snipping Tool a lot for documentation but would like to find a good capture and editing program to build a KB for our users.

That particular animated .gif was created in a program called Techsmith Camtasia Screen Recorder and Video Editor

Camtasia: Screen Recorder & Video Editor (Free Trial) | TechSmith

ScreentoGif is also a very useful screen recorder which I often use.

ScreenToGif

Here’s a useful YouTube video to watch to give you a quick idea of it is used.

Both have a learning curve as with all software, but are useful tools when mastered in education and tutorial scenarios.
Both take a little time to get to grips with, but the results, quality wise, can be very good in my opinion.
There has to be a trade-off though with quality and size when showing animated GIFs in online forums. The recorded capture size window, FPS (frames per second), length of recording (in terms of seconds/minutes) and the resulting created GIF and kB/MB size (after editing) is also major factor.

Different browsers have a part to play also when using GIFs. Modern browsers that use ‘similar’ standards are not so much an issue these days, but the likes of Internet Explorer versions render animations terribly and they can show very slow in comparison to say Firefox/Google etc.
It’s only when you see an animation you have created and uploaded to say a forum, on someone else’s machine using their browser of choice, that you see how embarrassingly bad they ‘can’ look to ‘others’.
