Default Mail Rescue, New IMAP Server, All Round Disaster

OK,

Here is a tale of incompetence, half knowledge and impetuous action, I think we need to concentrate on where we are now rather than what could have been.....

I do a lot of free lance (marine surveying) work for a business at the other end of the country and consequently have an email address on their domain, ie me@theircompany.co.uk

I use Outlook 2010 and 2016 on a laptop and PC and also the built in mail app on an iPhone 6. All were set up up using IMAP, therefore everything was up to date in all places, mail wouldn't pile up if I didn't switch on the laptop for a couple of weeks.

We had been having some persistent issues with email, culminating in the server rejecting all requests to retrieve mail, as if my password was wrong.

The company got their 'IT man' in to look at it, he was competent, some years ago, but is I think pretty passed his sell by date. He decided to 'wipe' the server and start again (presumably from a back up) so, he formatted the drives and then realised he didn't have the back up. He is now no longer involved.

The business owner moved his hosting from the original (one.com I think) to Host Presto which he believed to be more user friendly, reinstated the domain name and we set up mail clients with the new details.

Obviously, we have none of the old email, Outlook synced with the new servers and the old messages, as well as having been deleted were on a different host.

A lot of those old emails would be useful to me, so two questions:

1. Many of the emails are still 'on' my phone where I haven't updated the server details. Can they be retrieved (at least the ones that had been downloaded from the old server).

2. What is the best future mail client strategy, remembering I have no control over the server end of things.

The phone account is currently disabled because, when enabled it makes constant requests to the new server with the old details and ends up getting my IP blocked!

Thanks for getting this far, any thoughts or direction to the correct resource welcomed!

Happy Christmas, Barney.

PS, I have identified huge (3 gig or so) .pst and .ost files which are dated with today's date but but new account has only got half a dozen sent and received messages.... can this help?
