Lost email after upgrade
I had office 2007 installed and just upgraded to 2019 pro. Had emails saved in 2007 however they don't show up in 2019. Is there any way I can recover these emails or am I SOOL? Thanks in advance. |

Are you using IMAP or POP ?

Using POP. Now that I think of it, they still should be on the server, however, if it was it would download the emails just like any other email. Duh. Sometimes I need something to jar the memory, just getting old I guess.

Funny thing. I just checked the server and all the emails are gone. I never deleted them basically there were items I needed for reference until specific actions were completed. Now having 2007 on the computer, is it possible to recover or at least see if those emails are still in the pst file? I'm guessing 2007 used pst. Or because their gone from the server, they are just gone and can't get them back.

POP emails lose their synchronisation with the server, the sooner they are received by Outlook. They are removed from the server Mailbox, and it has to do nothing with their availability in the Outlook 2007.
If they are in OST format, convert them to PST first. The PST files can be imported to Outlook 2019. |

My 2007 files are in PST format.?
You will need to show hidden folders and then navigate to something like C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook for your pst files if they still exist? Appdata is hidden by default. |

But I thank you for your help anyway. I learned something, always make a backup of your pst files. Just more junk to contend with, but that's the price you pay to ensure you don't lose anything. |

"C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook " is the exact location. As far as I know removal of Outlook also deletes the existing Outlook folders. Probably, you are another sufferer. As per me, one should backup his emails, no matter they are accessed by IMAP server or POP. Here is my reason to own one such application- Mail Backup X. Apart from alerting the presence of attachments in my emails, it makes sure all my emails are backed up:https://www.msofficeforums.com/outlo...s-outlook.html. Make sure you get one such tool too. |

I could be wrong, but with IMAP mails stay on the server, don't they ? Why would one want to backup them?

I've definitely learned a lesson. Granted, you don't normally back up your email but it wouldn't hurt to do just that, in fact, it may be a good practice to back up all folders as your contacts are there as well, just in case something happens. You never know anymore. |

FWIW, your client is probably set to delete emails off the server when retrieved. I *think* I use this for my backups. Been a good while since I installed it. I tell a lie, it was this Microsofts own one |

Yes, they do. I had started just because I wasn't getting complete emails at my Outlook. The way this tool is storing my emails despite deleting them from the server and the Outlook too; I guess, I can save a lot of space in later years by removing them from the server and still having a copy of them. |

@XPAC
Please do not quote entire posts unnecessarily. Quotes just clutter the thread and make it hard to read. Thank you
