I have occasions where I get a popup "enter your username and password for the following server" on my email account (POP3). And I cannot connect to my email. Yesterday it was fine, today it happens again. Password and username are correct: I can sign in online directly to my Comcast account with the same credentials.

This can often happen when there is a problem at your ISPs end regarding pop3 access and there will be nothing you can do about it at ‘your’ end.
If it persists, maybe contacting Comcast would be advisable to clarify their circumstances and if Comcast have a Status page, seek it out and see if they are admitting to any known issues. |

Thanks...at least I know who to blame! Maybe I should convert to IMAP)?
