Default Email Spacing View

I have a friend who uses Outlook to view his MSN email. A few weeks ago he began complaining to me about the 'look' of his email. I assumed it was some easy fix and stopped over, but it has me stumped.

Attachment #1 is what his email used to look like. The second attachment is what it looks like now.

I've gotten rid of the 'focused' and other nonsense (some sort of grouping), but I seem unable to get it back to exactly how it did appear. The only way we've been able to simulate it is to go into youtube, select a video, click on the indicator to send the video in outlook and then discard the email. That's how we got image #1 and what is the way it always looked before, with the emails somewhat compressed. He says he cannot remember if it used to say something about switching to the beta version or not.

Attachment #2 has about 5 fewer emails on the page and seems to have no option to revert back to the non-beta version (if that is what #1 is depicting).

It seems trivial to me, but me friend is 80 years old and finds changes (even trivial ones) upsetting.
