Default Can OUTLOOK be used as a client and/or a server

I realize Outlook is a client based program. But my friend tells me that it might be used a server type program. Which he wants me to install on his 2 computers. I see this not happening unless he has a severer set up. After running through my confused brain for 2 days, I think this is just client (period). My mind has turned into mush now
