Unhappy Hotmail migration to Outlook

I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for a number of years to manage our various email accounts including a Hotmail account. This week the Hotmail account ceased working. The password was not recognised for some unknown reason.
The Outlook app also would not recognise the Hotmail account password when I tried to set that up as an alternative to Thunderbird.
However when I accessed Outlook via the web, the Hotmail password was accepted.

Also I tested Outlook on another PC in our home running Windows 10. I ended up setting up a new .outlook.com email account. The strange thing is the PC now asks for this email account password as the PC login. Also can't access the new Outlook email anywhere else but on the PC I set it up on. I am completely confused. Has anybody any clue where I have gone wrong with all this.

Default Hotmail imap not working

I get much the same as KenW. I've used Thunderbird email client for Hotmail email for a while. My IMAP connection to my xxx@hotmail.com account has now stopped working. Pretty sure it isn't Thunderbird as I downloaded another email client (Mailbird) to test this - this email client also failed.

I am facing same issue as well. There are quite few people who are having same issue where the Username/Password is not being accepted, Today while I logged into my account Microsoft did presented me with "We have updated our Terms and Conditions" something along those lines.

Therefore as suggested earlier this seems to be an issue with Outlook and not with Thunderbird.

At least I am not going nuts. I actually found references to this problem in forums from 2 years ago.
2 more questions though. Why would my son's hotmail account continue to function just fine on Thunderbird and elsewhere while mine does not.
And secondly, why is the outlook passphrase now the login passphrase on the Windows 10 pc?
