Outlook 2007 on Windows 10 suddenly fails "no email program associated"
I had been using Outlook from MS Office 2007 quite successfully on Windows 10 when, on trying to open it a while ago, it reported "The file OLMAPI32.dll is incompatible with MS Office Outlook. Install Outlook again."
I found advice online that this might be a problem associated with having multiple copies of Office on the PC, and indeed there is a trial version of Office 365 which has been there since I bought the PC. I therefore uninstalled Office 365, rebooted and tried Office 2007 again. Word, and Excel fired up fine, but Outlook now came up with the legend "There is no program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program, or if there is one already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I do not really understand what is being asked of me here. Can someone please explain, and get me back in touch with my emails, please? |

Since asking the above question I had the idea of running the Office 2007 Repair option on the original disk. I have done that and now I get the same message about there being "no program associated" etc, but if I just click "OK" I find that I can access my emails. Hurrah!
I guess I'll just have to live with the scarey message. |

OLMAPI32.DLL is part of Office. If you had more than one version of Office, then you will have had more than one version of this file (search C:\Program Files (x86)). It is possible that the program is trying to use the wrong version. I would suggest that you search for this file and see if you have more than one. If there is one relating to a version other than 2007, then rename both (add .old to the filename). Repair Outlook 2007 again, and reboot the PC.
Go to Windows Default Applications app and set Outlook 2007 as the default e-mail application. See if that fixes it. No guarantees

Thank you Graham.
There was, it turns out no other OLMAPI23.dll file, but I did have some more odd behaviour from Office (eg. There was a configuration process to go through whenever I opened Word). As a result I opted to unistall all MS Office related programs, and re-install my Office 2007 - which I have done. I was impressed by the way Outlook automaticallyfound my email accounts, and had all my folders of emails waiting for me. How does it know to do that? Amazing. Anyway, I should think that the problem(s) is now resolved, at least until the next one shows up . . . |

It is able to do that because, uninstalling does not remove personal settings from the registry (nor personal data files).
