Default New to Outlook - Gmail question

Hi All,

I installed Office 2016 a few weeks ago and I never had the full Outlook before and I have a question on how it works with Gmail. I successfully configured Outlook to get my Gmail and it works fine. I created some new folders where I move e-mails to that I want to save so I can keep Inbox empty. But under the Gmail folder there is s sub-folder called Important and sometimes the same e-mails that come into Inbox show up there and stay there even if I move the Inbox-ed e-mails to one of those folders I created. And then if I delete the e-mail from Important the copy of that e-mail that is in the other folder also gets deleted. I really don't want the Important folder at all but Outlook won't let me delete it.

How can I prevent the Important folder from getting the copies of the e-mail coming into the Inbox.

Thanks,

Gerry

Hi ALL,

I found my own answer!! I seems that Gmail really doesn't use "folders" and in reality they are just labels applied to an e-mail. So an e-mail can have more than one label and if it is deleted using one of its labels it gets deleted from all of its labels. Thus if you want to keep Important empty and delete something from there if that email had another label it will get deleted from that other label also.

The solution is to go into the Gmail settings and under Labels hide the labels you don't want to see AND if you're using anything other than the Gmail web mail site (like using OUTLOOK) you also MUST un-check "Show on IMAP." That last part will prevent it from showing up in Outlook!

Cheers!
Gerry
