How to manage emails across multiple devices??
I've run into a problem recently which I'm presuming is because of accessing email on different devices (PC, Kindle, phone).
Basically with my 2 main accounts, one is POP3 the other IMAP - if I open a mail on my phone first then when I go to my PC it's not downloaded because presumably the server thinks it's already been & read etc, so I then can't get a copy on my PC without forwarding it off the server. But sometimes I've got lots of mail I've not even opened anywhere showing up on the server as read & it seems the phone has perhaps got priority on doing this, regardless of whether I read it on the phone or not. Unsure where to change settings on this score to ensure I can access the mail on whichever device I desire without it affecting the others?? Or is that maybe not possible? Appreciate any input. You do not provide enough information for anyone to be of help. Which account are you experiencing the problem with? POP and IMAP accounts function very differently:
- POP accounts pull all email from the server to whichever device you log into the account from. - IMAP accounts keep the emails on the server until you delete them from your device, allowing you to sync email across multiple devices. Which if your accounts are you using? Which if your accounts are you experiencing issues with? If you are wanting to sync email across multiple devices, a POP account will NOT be feasible. Use IMAP or an Exchange account. |

Apologies not sure why I didn't fill in all the info as I honestly know better!!.
I meant the problem is with both those accounts - one each of POP3 (Virgin) & IMAP (GMail). They both 'withhold' mail from the PC into Outlook 2013, if the mail is downloaded on other devices, whether or not it actually is read (if that makes sense?). And then when I fire up Outlook invariably it only downloads some mail but not all. If I view the mail on either server it shows as having been read when I haven't read it but when it will have automatically downloaded to the phone or Kindle (but not the PC). Currently it just leaves me having to remember to check out the server mail daily as well just in case Ive missed something as has happened too many times in the past few months. I've used Outlook for my mail for years now & have never had this particular problem despite having my email set up exactly the same way each time (I've 9 accounts but it's only these 2 which use similar mail programs where I've had the problem). Hopefully that helps clarify slightly without adding further confusion as I'm prone to do!! Thanks. |
