Default Cannot find item

Good day
Hope you can assist.
I have a Outlook 2010 on Win7 64bit on a HP Probook 450.
The notebook is on a domain and the user gets his mails of exchange.
When my user receives new mail from only 2 out of 30 odd users, he cannot open them.
He gets a error message, Outlook cannot find item.
But if I go to autodiscover.xxxxxx/owa I can open the mail and reply to it.
This occurs in cached and non cached mode.
This happens in normal Outlook and in safemode Outlook.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled MS Offcie 2010 which did not help.
Please advise, I'm going nuts...
Thank you
Gideon

Hi BatteryMan,

How is your user attempting to open the mail? Directly from the reading pain? Or is it after doing a search for the emails he wants? Do the particular emails he can not open have anything in common? Attachments? Particular senders etc?

Hi HighFlyTechGuy

The user sees the mail in the inbox, then double click on it in his main viewing pane, then gets the resulting error.
He gets the error on 2 different contacts and where excel documents are attached.

Thanks for you rreply.

This is a strange one, so I feel I need to ask some more questions.

Can the emails be accessed from a different device?
Have other kinds of attachments been sent and received by this user without issue?
The emails from the specific contacts produce the same error as the emails with Excel attachments?

Good morning HiFlyTechGuy

I hope I answer the question fully, here goes;

The email is sent from User X to a variety of users on the Domain.
Everyone gets the mail, can open the mail and can open the Excel attachment.
Everyone except my problem user, User Y.
So let's say User Z also got this email with the Excel attachment, and can view and open it. I ask User Z to send this mail to User Y, then User Y can view and open it. I cannot bend my mind around this.
User Y only gets Excel documents from User X.
The problem started when I issued User Y with a temp notebook while his actual notebook is sent away for warranty. At that point in time I did not know that a error so simple was going to evolve into such a issue.

Cheers

Gideon

Hello again BatteryMan,

Could I ask you to please have the user start the computer in safe mode? I want to attempt to figure out if this an issue with the notebook or with the user account.

This can be achieved by pressing f8 as the "starting windows" screen appears.

Let me know if this helps.
