Default Text size in message area is so small as to be unreadable

When I'm preparing new emails, and replying to emails, the text size in the message area has suddenly reduced to microdot size, making it unreadable when I am keying in characters. Can anyone explain how I can correct this?

Strangely enough, when such an email is sent, the recipient can read the text message as normal, and it also reads as normal in my sent folder.
