Default Office 2010 Outlook New Mail Icon

I have a Windows 7 Professional install and I'm running the recently released beta version of Office 2010.

My problem is I cannot get a new mail icon alert, even though it is set to do so in the options. I do get the desktop alert (and I think the sound alert) but if I'm away from my computer I will miss them.

I know with Outlook 2010 there isn't a little envelope icon in the system tray anymore for a new mail alert.

With Outlook 2010 the icon pinned to the taskbar is supposed to change so an envelope appears on the icon. I know this change is subtle, others have complained how subtle it is but believe me when I say mine doesn't change at all. Outlook is set to not be hidden when minimized.

One other problem I have is I've told Outlook to automatically empty it's trash when I exit and I also set it to not ask me each time but I get the confirmation dialog anyway.

How do I fix these issues?

David
