Default Automatically Mark emails in a folder as Read

Hi Guys

I have a number of Rules (Outlook 2013) set up to copy both emails that I send and emails that I receive into different folders.

These rules work well...except that the emails that I send are being shown as Unread...

I know that Outlook 2013 Rules do not have an option to mark an email as read, so is there a simple and free way to do this????

Thanks for your help
Regards
Greg

Hi Clark,

Thanks for the reply but it does not solve my issue.

I want to have an "automated" method to mark all emails in a Folder as read every time a new email is copied or moved to that folder. There used to be a product called Autoread by Techit but they no longer provide it.

Hi Lateral,

In the Rules Wizard dialog when you get to the 3rd screen which asks "What do you want to do with the message?", depending on what other options you've chosen as part of your rule there is an option in this screen to select "mark it as read".

My query would be, wouldn't the Sent Items and Inbox be performing the two functions you have described that you have setup using Rules? By creating a rule to duplicate these functions you are doubling the amount of email in your profile.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. That option you mentioned is only able to be set for incoming emails not outgoing (sent) emails.
I have thousands of emails that I have sent to various companies I deal with and have created a folder for each of them and a rule that moves any sent emails to the correct sent folder. Unfortunately, the emails that are sent are showing up as unread and therefore being included in the unread mail folder.

I hope the above better explains what I need.

Yes that is correct, you can only use the "mark as read" option for incoming email.
I'm not aware of any function that is going to achieve what you are after.

Possibly you could do it with a macro but I'm not proficient in macro creation so someone with macros experience would need to assist with this.
