Default Custom Field help

I am trying to learn how to make custom fields so that I can group my email by date the way it normally is. I want to sort by flag status and date instead of just by date but I don't want the grouping to change all that much.. I like it being grouped by day, week, and month. However with two fields used it groups according to the exact time emails were received.

I am an advanced C++ programmer, but the resources I've found on this exact problem were for <2013 versions of outlook. The code I have found related to this does not work in 2013, or I don't know how to get it to work.

I would be happy with custom code for grouping emails exactly the way I want, or by create custom fields, or both, and or any other possible solution to my woes.

edit:
So in short what I am looking for is any information that will help me on my way. If anybody knows exactly how to solve this problem for me that would be pretty cool too.
