For the past three days, MS Outlook has been "synchronizing folders" according to the icon in my system tray. It has significantly slowed my computer and frequently freezes Outlook. How do I stop this (or at least control it)?
Thanks! |

What is it trying to sync with? If ti is a PDA, make sure it is connected and let it sync. otherwise you should be able to right click the icon and hit stop. If all else fails, re-start outlook/windows and see if it happens again.

The problem is I don't know what it's syncing with...definitely not a PDA or iPhone. I have shut down Outlook and the entire computer many times, but it comes back up. Never did before!

go to:
start, run, 'msconfig' If you click on the startup tab it will list all the programs that windows starts on start-up. Look for something like sync manage or anything similar. uncheck the box and then re-start. Hopefully it will be gone. You can google almost any of the programs starting up and it will tell you what it is. I check msconfig at least once a week to ensure nothing is there. A lot of programs put their auto-updater in there. I'd rather do it manually than have something running in the background taking up resources trying to update. Good luck. |

I've just solved that problem by setting up a new account in Outlook and making it the default account. Go to Tools>Accounts and select 'New' on the e-mail tab. Set up a new account exactly the same as the original. Do not copy and paste information - type it all in fresh. When done, select the new account and click 'set as default'. If this helps after a while you may delete the original account.
